What is Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouts encourages children to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. (The Cub Scout Motto is “Do your best!”) With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, Cub Scouts aims to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and
rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge. With an emphasis on outdoor events, small gatherings, and activities with family, Cub Scouts is a great way to let your kids safely socialize, learn, and have fun.
As a member of Cub Scouts, your child will be placed into a “den” – a grouping of about 6-8 other Scouts in the same grade as your child. Your den will meet once a month and complete “adventures,” which teach Scouts skills, leadership, the value of service, and help build confidence to try new things.
In addition, Scouts from all dens will meet once a month for a larger “pack” meeting. At pack meetings, all the Scouts in grades kindergarten through fifth grade gather to hear a fun presentation, learn a skill, or play games, as well as recognize achievements from Scouts.
Pack 3 keeps our Scouts active and engaged through camping, fishing, hiking, Pinewood Derby, Model Rocket Launch, West Point football game, Somerset Patriots baseball game, service projects, marching in the local Mendham parades, and more.

Why Should My Child Join?
Most kids join Cub Scouts because it’s fun, but the Cub Scout program is a lot more than that! The activities your child participates in as a member of Cub Scouts builds leadership and character strengths. It builds new confidence and social skills. It teaches the value of service and citizenship and working together to help others in need.
Cub Scouts is also a program full of fun activities! While many know Scouting as a program with an emphasis on the outdoors, today it’s much more than that. As a Cub Scout, your child will get a chance to participate in lots of different types of activities from traditional camping trips and building a pinewood derby car to creating science projects and playing sports.
Who Can Join Cub Scouts?
Pack 3 is open to Mendham-area boys in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Once a boy joins Pack 3, they will be assigned to a den that includes their grade-level peers. On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses towards a badge of rank based on their grade. They need not have earned the previous rank in order to earn the next. Each of the ranks in Cub Scouting has its own requirements that are age appropriate, so earning a rank below a Cub Scout’s current grade is not permitted. As a Cub Scout advances through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities they have learned.

What is BSA's Commitment to Safety?
Boy Scouts of America (BSA) takes safety for its Scouts very seriously. To ensure that Cub Scouts is a safe environment for your child, all Cub Scout leaders must complete mandatory youth protection training and criminal background checks. In addition, one-on-one adult and youth interactions are not permitted. For more information about Boy Scouts of America’s commitment to Scout safety, visit the Scouting Safely page on the BSA website.
